A Stolen Movie (2026)

Camilo Restrepo's 12-minute experimental short reappropriates a 1960s General Motors promotional film that documented a Chevrolet Corvair expedition crossing the Darién Gap — the dense, roadless jungle separating Colombia and Panama. Through re-editing and critical narration, Restrepo juxtaposes the original footage's celebration of industrial progress with the contemporary reality of the same terrain: a perilous migration corridor where hundreds of thousands of people now traverse on foot, fleeing crisis across the Americas.

The film draws a structural parallel between the unimpeded movement of Northern capital and technology across the isthmus in the 1960s and the violently restricted movement of Global South migrants today, using the corporate archive itself as evidence of the continuity between extraction and exclusion.
