In 1834 Germany, a nation teetering on the brink of revolution, Heinrich Furrer finds himself entangled in a dangerous web of politics and personal desire. Secretly utilizing his brother Gustav's printing house to distribute Georg Büchner's revolutionary manifesto, "Der Hessische Landbote," Heinrich supports the uprising while navigating a complicated domestic life.
His situation is further complicated by a tangled love triangle: he is deeply in love with Minna, a woman who dreams of emigrating to America, yet she is married to his own brother, Gustav. To make matters worse, Heinrich lives with Agnes, a former prostitute, creating a household of conflicting loyalties. As the political tension rises, Heinrich must decide where his true priorities lie: the revolution, his forbidden love, or the family he has built.
