Synopsis

In 1977, disability rights activist Judy Heumann leads a diverse coalition of more than 100 protesters in a 25‑day occupation of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in San Francisco. Their goal: force the federal government to issue regulations enforcing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the first U.S. civil‑rights law protecting people with disabilities. The film follows the organizers’ day‑to‑day strategy, the personal sacrifices of the occupiers, and the political maneuvering that culminates in a historic signing ceremony.
