Chimeras Tonight (Too Mercury) (2026)

In Veronika Neputina’s four-minute animated short Chimeras Tonight (Too Mercury), two women share an intimate connection that triggers a surreal physical transformation. Their bodies gradually merge with the surrounding natural world — roots, blossoms, and elemental textures — becoming hybrid creatures bound to the ecosystem. Without dialogue or conventional narrative structure, the film follows their metamorphosis as a visual poem about love, identity, and ecological symbiosis.

The piece unfolds through a series of dreamlike tableaux, each frame dense with organic detail and shifting color. The women’s journey from human form to something stranger and more integrated with nature serves as both a literal and metaphorical exploration of queer becoming and environmental unity.
