Dark Horse (2026)

Dark Horse follows Jair Bolsonaro (Jim Caviezel) from his days as a disgruntled army captain through his long tenure as a fringe congressman to his improbable 2018 presidential victory. The film frames his trajectory as a reaction to Brazil's perceived moral and economic decline, interweaving his family's growing political influence — sons Carlos, Eduardo, and Flávio — with the country's deepening polarization. A fictional foreign journalist (Lynn Collins) observes the campaign's final stretch, offering a perspective neither fully sympathetic nor wholly critical.

As the election approaches, the narrative touches on the stabbing that sidelined Bolsonaro weeks before the vote, the role of social media in bypassing traditional press, and the uneasy alliances forged with military figures and evangelical leaders. The film stops at the inauguration, leaving governance and its consequences unexplored.
