Synopsis

Heretical Girls unfolds as a rapid-fire sequence of disconnected vignettes, each a self-contained tableau of folk horror imagery. There is no central protagonist or linear plot — instead, the camera drifts through rituals, desecrations, and moments of grotesque ecstasy involving a rotating cast of archetypal figures: a gagged scold, a bishop of worms, a bride, and others named for their symbolic weight rather than narrative function.

The segments share a visual vocabulary of rural decay, religious iconography twisted into perversion, and bodies subjected to rites both ancient and inexplicable. What connects them is mood, not story: a sense that beneath the veneer of tradition lies something ravenous and old. The film ends not with resolution but with a final image that either crystallizes the preceding chaos or deepens the opacity, depending on the viewer.
