I Rarely Wake Up Dreaming (2027)

In Kyiv, Olha and Oleh — a young queer couple — are deep in the process of Olha’s gender transition when Russia launches its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As the city transforms overnight, their intimate journey collides with survival: hormone treatments become scarce, identity documents turn into liabilities, and the definition of safety fractures. Forced to flee, they navigate checkpoints, displacement, and the bureaucracy of war, testing whether their love can withstand the simultaneous unmaking of body and nation.

The film follows their fragmented path across borders and temporary shelters, interleaving flashbacks of pre-war tenderness with the harsh present. No grand battles are shown; the war is felt through sirens, silences, and the quiet erosion of normalcy. Olha’s transition — already a voyage into the unknown — becomes inseparable from the larger unmooring of a people.
