Synopsis

In early May 1970, New Haven became the epicenter of national attention as the Black Panther trials sparked massive protests on the New Haven Green. May Day x 4 draws on archival footage from four independent film crews who documented those days, weaving their distinct perspectives into a single, non-linear portrait of the demonstrations, speeches, and street confrontations.

Figures including Abbie Hoffman, Allen Ginsberg, David Hilliard, Tom Hayden, and Jerry Rubin appear in period footage, their voices overlapping as the film moves between rally podiums, quiet conversations, and tense standoffs with law enforcement. No narration guides the viewer — only the raw, sometimes contradictory rhythm of the archive itself.
